SCO’s Unix Shell Game

Friday June 11, 2004
SCO is engaging some of the most powerful corporations on the planet in the attempt to claim rights to Unix/Linux code developed and used at those corporations. Even if SCO will not win any of its lawsuits, some corporations may still agree to pay licensing fees to SCO to avoid more expensive legal fees. A logical strategy for SCO therefore is to take on smaller companies with limited resources first, who are more likely to give in, and thus set precedents that will strengthen its position. Then of course there are those companies that like to see the Linux movement weakened and volunteer such precedents. Here is a nice overview of the ongoing legal Unix shell game from LinuxInsider.
