Single CD Linux Distro - PCLinuxOS

Thursday March 24, 2005
PCLinuxOS (Preview 8) is based on Mandrake Linux and runs off a bootable CD. It does not require anything to be installed on your computer. The CD contains about two gigabyte worth of software, which is uncompressed on the fly, thereby providing a lot of popular software, including the KDE 3.3.2 Desktop, Thunderbird 1.0, Firefox 1.0, Open Office 1.1.3, and a complete Xserver. Instead of running PCLinuxOS from the CD you can also install it on your hard drive, as single, dual, or multiple boot, if you like. According to a review on guilinux.com, this process should be straightforward, especially if you are familiar with Mandrake Linux. The review also points out exceptional graphic design, sound effects and a well chosen set of applications that gets your system ready for everyday use.
