Software For Open Source Code Detection Becomes More Affordable

Black Duck Software Inc. has released protexIP/OnDemand, the web-based version of its software for analyzing the use of open source software in software projects. The web-based version is less expensive than the stand-alone version and makes the service affordable to smaller companies, independent software vendors, and due diligence teams, that need to investigate licensing obligations. protexIP/OnDemand uses Black Duck’s open source database to detect if code from open source software is contained the user’s source code. If open source code is identified the system retrieves the relevant licenses and compiles a list of issues to be reviewed. To ensure security, the customer’s source code is kept inside the company’s firewalls at all times. Read more…
