Another major PC maker offers notebook computers preinstalled with Linux. Using a free operating system helps to keep prices down. E.g., the model AS3502LCi, with the Celeron M 360 processor, 256MB RAM, and 15 inch LCD screen is distributed by Synnex for 590 US dollars dealer price. Acer selected Linpus as the distribution for their Linux notebook PCs, some of which come in an unusual bright red Ferrari design. Linpus uses Unicode to provide full support for Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages. It includes the KDE desktop environment, Open Office, and many other popular applications. It has been tested extensively to support a wide range of hardware (SCSI, RAID, NIC, etc).
