Sun Microsystems announced that its Java System Application Server and Java System Enterprise Server Bus (ESB) will be released as open source and become free software. The Java System Application Server is used for developing Web services, while the ESB runs the software.
JBoss’ Open Source Application Server on the other hand has now been certified for HP’s Linux Reference Architecture, which specifies the interaction of software and hardware on servers.
Another fast-growing sector involving the symbiotic relationship between Linux and Java is the mobile phone market. For example, Motorola’s new E895 smart phone with camera is Java-based and runs on a mini Linux platform.
