Desks With Built-In Computers For Indiana High Schools

Saturday August 20, 2005
The state of Indiana has initiated a program called ACCESS (Affordable Computers for Every Secondary Student), which aims to provide a computer on (or built-in) the desks of some 300,000 high school students in Indiana, that is, one computer for every high school student. In collaboration with Novell, the program is started off with 1,600 Intel-based Linux computers this fall.

"Novell Linux Desktop" has been selected as a proven solution for large organizations. Installation of these computers on a large scale has been made possible my the low cost of Linux-based systems. Yet, the systems will provide all the functionality needed and enable online testing, easier access to information, and many other computer-based learning enhancements.
