JackLab - A Linux Distro For Musicians

Thursday September 13, 2007
The developers of JackLab have released the second release candidate of JAD 1.0 (JackLab Audio Distribution). JackLab is designed for musicians and producers and includes some 70 audio applications. It is based on openSUSE 10.2 using a realtime kernel derived from version 2.6.19. The desktop environment is Enlightenment 17 and includes the basic KDE applications as well as Firefox 2.0 and multimedia codec support.

A recent addition to JackLab is "WineAsio", which makes it possible to run Windows ProAudio programs that use the ASIO interface on Linux so that they can be integrated as JACK clients with low audio latency. The VST sequencer host Reaper has been successfully tested in this way.

The JackLab Audio Distribution (JAD) can be downloaded as a 1.5 GB DVD image here.
