Tux Paint - Fun Drawing Software For Small Children

Sunday January 6, 2008
This is a very easy to use, yet very useful software for creating graphical documents for children.

The user interface is designed for intuitive use by children as young as three to five years. Even when saving or loading images, no knowledge of the computer's file system structure is required. Tux Paint includes the following tools: rubber stamp, shape, paint brush, text tool, and many special effects.

Tux Paint comes with a number of features that allow you to leave a child alone with the program for a little while without having to worry that it may mess up the computer or use up the ink of your printer. For example, the program can be set so that the user cannot activate other icons on the screen with the mouse; printing can be restricted to one print in a specified time interval, or turned off altogether; and those fun sound effects can be turned off as well.

On Ubuntu Linux Tux Paint can be installed using the Synaptic Package Manager under System -> Administration. After the installation you can start the program by entering "tuxpaint" in a terminal window (see Applications -> Accessories). Read more...

Another cool educational program for children is GCompris.
