Java SE to be Released as 100% Free and Open Source

Sun Microsystems is planning to release an updated version of the OpenJDK in about two weeks. Since it will now consist exclusively of free software, there will be no more obstacles to including it in the major central Linux software repositories, that offer only free software for download.
Sun had already released most of the code a year ago. However, part of the JDK had legal restrictions that prevented a complete open source release. In collaboration with the open source community and the major Linux distribution teams, these parts have now been replaced with open source versions. Read more...
