17 months after his arrest, the trial of Hans Reiser, the original developer of the Reiser file system, has come to a conclusion. The jury found him guilty of killing his estranged wife, who disappeared in September 2006 and was never seen again. Reiser maintained that she went back to her native Russia after being accused of embezzling money from his company.

These developments have delayed the work on ReiserFS 4, the latest version of the file systems designed by Hans Reiser. Given that there are competing file systems available for Linux, this could mean the end of ReiserFS 4.
