Krita - A Graphics Tool for Professionals
Krita is a comprehensive graphics program for Linux, that is fundamentally different than the better known graphics package GIMP.
The differences start with the layout of the various user interface components. Instead of having them organized as a set of separate windows, Krita uses a single-pane integrated view, where all the UI functionality is included in the main window. However, the panels and tools can be freely moved around in the window and are dockable to provide a clean appearance.
Krita offers a number of innovations in the areas of adjustment layers, filter effects application and filter selection, and provides a wide range of sophisticated selection and drawing tools.
Krita also distinguishes itself through its support for a number of color profiles, which are needed to properly import and export images to various devices.
Areas of improvement include the text tool and the use of GIMP filters. There also appear to be some inefficiencies that cause the user interfaces to be responding slowly at times.
Krita is part of the office software package KOffice, but it can be downloaded and installed independently of the other KOffice components. Ubuntu users can conveniently install it through the "Add/Remove..." option under "Applications".
