Linux File System Developer Hans Reiser Leads Police to Wife's Body

As has been suggested in recent weeks, Hans Reiser told police where the body of his estranged wife has been buried in exchange for a reduced sentence. Previously a jury found Reiser guilty of killing his wife, who disappeared in September 2006. Until his conviction Reiser maintained that his wife went back to her native Russia after being accused of embezzling money from his company. Apparently she was killed when he strangled her during an argument at their home.

The trial has delayed the work on ReiserFS 4, the latest version of the Linux file systems designed by Hans Reiser. Given that there are competing file systems available for Linux, such as Ext3, this could mean the end of ReiserFS 4. However, many Linux experts are still hopeful that RFS 4 will survive in one form or another, since it has some distinct advantages. Read more...
