Check Your Notebook Computer's Electricity Usage with PowerTOP

The program PowerTOP, developed by Intel for Linux, can be used to determine which software is burning the most power and drains your notebook's battery unnecessarily fast. It even provides explicit suggestions on how power consumption can be reduced.

This tool combines various types of information from the Linux kernel and presents it in a concise, easy to read way. For example, it shows how much time the CPU spends in each of five possible states, where each state represents a different level of power consumption.

PowerTop works best with Intel mobile processors, which are used mostly in notebook computers. Read more...
