TORCS - 3D Race Car Game

TORCS Screen Shot The is a great game for people who like to drive. You can choose from different racing events, from a variety of race tracks and a large selection of cars. The graphics is detailed and fairly realistic. When you make turns using the left and right arrow keys, the angle of the front wheels of the car increases according to how long the keys have been pressed. You can choose various perspectives for driving your car and keep an eye on the other cars in the race.

If you are using a 3D desktop environment, such as Compiz Fusion, you may want to turn it off while playing the game (in Ubuntu you can do that as follows: System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Visual Effects: None). It works better that way. Read more...
