Highlights of the latest version include a story mode with challenges, more realistic skidding and collisions, the ability to drive tracks in reverse, and new SuperTuxKart music.
Super Tux Kart is a fun little racing game similar to the popular Super Mario Kart 64 game. In addition to the new story mode, players can choose between Grand Prix, Quick Race and Time Trial modes, and multiplayer modes for two, three or four participants. In single player mode you race against characters controlled by the AI (Artificial Intelligence) of the software.
After deciding on a skill level, you can select from a choice of characters, choose one of many well designed tracks, and enjoy the ride. Soundtrack and background music ain't bad either.
Super Tux Kart is designed more for fun than for realistic graphics and simulation, although the physics is quite good. It is native Linux software, available free of charge and easy to install on Linux, Windows, and MacOSX. Ubuntu users can install it from the Ubuntu package manager or software center.
