Bluefish - A Modern Editor for Web Development

Saturday May 10, 2008
Bluefish Screenshot Bluefish is a well designed editor and software development environment with a rich graphical user interface (GUI). It is well suited for development of web pages but also works well as general purpose editor and integrated software development environment (IDE). It supports syntax highlighting for a number of languages, including HTML, JSP, Java, JavaScript, SQL, XML, Perl, PHP, and Python.

The GUI includes a file browser and an innovative bookmark system that allows you to jump to specified points in multiple files. Bluefish is capable of having hundreds of files open at a time and allows you to open files remotely using Gnome's virtual file system.

Besides the regular menus and toolbars, Bluefish's GUI has a tabbed menu system for conveniently inserting more complex structures such as tables, forms, and div tags with CSS styles. Another menu provides advanced code segments and scripts.

Bluefish is open source and released under the GNU GPL license. It can be downloaded here.
