Escape code

Definition: Escape code: A series of characters, combining Esd (ASCII value 27) with one or more ASCII characters, that you can use to change screen colours, control the cursor, create special prompts, reassign keys on the keyboard, and change your printer's settings (to compressed type or bold, for example). Also, the series of characters that engages a modem's command mode. In the Hayes command set, the escape sequence consists of three plus signs (+++). Synonymous with escape sequence.
