Definition: uninterruptible power supply (UPS): A battery that can supply continuous power to a computer system in the event of a power failure. The battery charged while your computer is switched on, kicks in if the power fails and provides power for 10 minutes or more, during which time you can save files and shut down the computer to preserve the integrity of crucial data.
