"Zip"

By Juergen Haas, About.com

Definition: Zip: A popular form of file compression/archiving available on many operating system platforms, including DOS/Windows, OS/2 and UNIX/Linux. Popular tools include PKZip/PKUnzip and Zip/Unzip. Not to be confused with the Iomega Zip disk, which is a removable storage device. (Confusingly, a zipped file can be stored on a Zip disk or not. They are unrelated.) Zipped files will have a .zip extension.
