Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool Review

A full review of Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool, a free hard drive testing tool

Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool is a hard drive testing program that works with Fujitsu hard drives only.

The program is available in two forms: one that runs from Windows like a regular program and another that works from a floppy disk, meaning you can use it no matter what operating system is running on your hard drive.

Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool for Windows v1.12

This review is of the Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool for Windows v1.12 and for DOS v7.0. Please let us know if there's a newer version we need to review.

More About Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool

Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool for Windows can be used on Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows 2000. The DOS version is operating system independent because it runs outside the OS, which means you can use it on any computer that has Fujitsu hard drives.

Both the DOS and Windows version of Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool can run two tests:

  • Quick Test: This Quick Test test takes around three minutes and does a random read test on the hard drive.
  • Comprehensive Test: A Comprehensive Test also performs a random read test but includes a surface test too. The time required for this test will vary based on the size of the hard drive.

Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool shows each drive's model name, serial number, firmware, and the result of each test.

You may need to replace the hard drive if it fails any of your tests.

Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool Pros & Cons

Fortunately, this hard drive tester has some nice benefits:

What We Like
  • Works with all operating systems.

  • Easy to use.

  • Windows version doesn't require installation (portable).

  • Both versions are small in size.

What We Don't Like
  • Only works with Fujitsu hard drives.

  • DOS version doesn't have a graphical user interface.

Thoughts on Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool

The Windows tool is easy to use because there are hardly any buttons in the program, and none of them are confusing or hard to find.

The most obvious drawback to Fujitsu Diagnostic Tool is that you must have a Fujitsu hard drive to run any scans. If you don't, you can still boot to the floppy program and run the Windows program, but neither will let you scan any of the drives.

What If I Don't Have a Fujitsu Hard Drive?

Like we said above, this program can only scan a Fujitsu hard drive. While this is great if that's the type of hard drive you have, it's not so great if you open the program only to find that it won't scan anything.

Fortunately, there are several other free hard drive testing tools that can be used to scan hard drives from other manufacturers. Seagate SeaTools, HDDScan, and Windows Drive Fitness Test (WinDFT) are just a few examples.

A few disk partitioning tools can run basic surface tests on your hard drives too, and they usually support a wide range of HDDs, not just Fujitsu drives. MiniTool Partition Wizard Free is one example.
