Linux Software: FTP Servers and Clients

The following is a selection of Linux-based FTP servers, clients and tools. Applications with free versions are indicated as [Free]. Note: Freeware and GNU Library General Public License often come with restrictions. Users should check copyright and licensing statements from the developers.
FTP Client for Linux: AxY FTP
AxY FTP is an X Window System FTP client. It is written using Motif widget set and XmAxyList Widget. GTK+ GUI implementation is also available. Platform: Linux / Unix.

C-Kermit is a secure, scriptable and flexible FTP client. Platform: Linux / Unix.
FTP Client for Linux: Cftp [Free]
Cftp (the “Comfortable ftp”) is a small and efficient command-line program. It is known for its quickness and its intuitive and convenient keyboard commands. Platform: Linux / Unix.
FTP Client for Linux: Curl [Free]
Curl is a command line tool for transferring files with URL syntax. It supports FTP, HTTP, and Telnet, among many other protocols. Platform: Linux, *BSD, Mac OS X.
FTP Client for Linux: GNU Wget [Free]
GNU Wget is a non-interactive command line tool, so it may easily be called from scripts, cron jobs, terminals without Xsupport, etc. Platform: Linux / Unix.

FTP Client for Linux: NcFTP Client [Free]

FTP Client for Linux: XFTP and XDIR [Free]
XDIR and XFTP provide Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) for transferring files and organizing directories. XDIR is the successor to XFTP, expanding the functionality from transfers between two hosts to transfers between a variety of local and remote hosts. Platform: Linux / Unix.

Yafc stands for "Yet Another FTP Client". Platform: Linux / Unix.
FTP Server for Linux: NcFTPd (Free for Educational Sites)

FTP Server for Linux: WU-FTPd
WU-FTPd (aka. Wuarchive-ftpd) is the most common FTP server for Unix. Platform: Linux / Unix.
FTP Tool for Linux: Ftpcopy and Ftpls [Free]
Unlike general FTP client programs, these two FTP clients for Unix focus on simple and specific tasks. Ftpcopy copies files and directories form an FTP server. Ftpls generates directory listings, either in plain text or HTML. Platform: Linux, Open/Free/NetBSD.
