PlayOnLinux is a collection of free software for installing games and other applications, that were developed for Microsoft Windows, on Linux systems. Like CrossOver Games, it is based on the compatibility layer Wine and includes various Bash and Python scripts that help with the installation of MS Windows applications.
Installation scripts are available for hundreds of Games including the most popular ones such as Age of Empires, Battlefield 2, Call of Duty 2, Civilization 4, Far Cry 2, Grand Theft Auto IV, Mass Effect 2, Prey, Starcraft, as well as the game management system Steam.
However, PlayOnLinux is not all about fun and games, it can also help you run a lot a other Windows software on Linux. For example, there are installation scripts for Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Flash, AutoCAD, iTunes, Guitar Pro 7, et cetera. Of course you need valid licenses for the software you install, but you don't need a license for any Microsoft Windows operating system.
