Four Second Frenzy features a huge collection of games, each of which to be won within four seconds. These games require fast reflexes, as well as intelligence. They probably should be categorized as an arcade game, because of the extremely fast pace and the arcade styles found in many of the games. The graphics are pretty good. The audio is great.
Gameplay
The gameplay is fairly simple. Using the arrow keys and the space bar, you steer through a bunch of different four-second games. Every time you loose a game, you loose a life. The number of lives you get depends on the game mode you selected. While playing, you must learn the rules of each game very fast, due to the extremely limited time. There are too many different games to explain in this review, but I can at least say that the variety is tremendous. At the beginning of each short game, the simple rules are shown quickly, and you should only read them if you have to. The games range from steering a hero around a dragon to collect treasure to quickly pressing arrow keys to using the arrow keys and space bar to help a kid cross a lava stream. These games were created by different developers. Expect to see quite a bit of variety.
Graphics and Audio
The styles of the graphics vary greatly, because they are by different artists. As a group, these are very handsome mouse-drawn graphics. The audio is great, with energetic music to hype you up, and sound effects wherever you need them. Every time you loose a game, there will be a big “ERRRR”, alerting you of your mistake.
Special Feature
The coolest part of Four Second Frenzy is the variety of levels. In one, all you need to do is mindless tap the right arrow key to help a person, who is running on a conveyor belt the opposite way, trying to stay away from a constantly slamming hammer. Many other games, however, require quick reflexes. For example, one game requires you to photograph a UFO by pressing the space bar when it zips by overhead. This is actually pretty hard, because the UFO appears for less than a second.
Bottom Line
This free Linux game collection features so much diversity, fun and originality. Its graphics are great, perfectly fitting in each game. You should definitely try this game if you are interested in fast-paced arcade games. My may find it challenging initially if you are not used to the quick reflexes.
