Heli Attack 3 is simple arcade game that takes skill, reflex, and luck to win. Using sprites from various games, this game puts together diverse maps. You will be constantly bombarded by helicopters when play on each map. Your mission is to take down as many helicopters as possible, and finish the mission. There are many weapons to use and many ways to play.
Gameplay
When playing Heli Attack 3, you take down helicopters while avoiding of being hurt. There are many missions, which are grouped in different phases and played out on completely different terrains. You start out with a pistol with unlimited ammo plus a couple grenades. After each mission, you will unlock new weapons, which will be dropped by the destroyed aircraft. Each of these extra weapons has a limited supply of ammo. They include powerful rocket launchers, ranging from straight fire ones to guided ones, to shotgun ones. There are also a number of rapid-fire guns, such as the chain gun and the machine gun. Other weapons are laser guns, sniper rifles, and many more.
Graphics and Audio
The graphics are sprite-based, meaning that they are blocky but still very well rendered. The sound includes some good music, as well as many sound effects for the guns. When your character gets hit, there will be a groaning sound, and when a helicopter gets hit, it will make this sound that resembles metal shaking.
Special Feature
I would say the most interesting part of Heli Attack 3 is the range of weapons. Some of my favorites are the drunken rocket launchers, each of which can blast out three rockets at a time over a wide angle. But they are extremely hard to aim due to their random movements. There is also a combat bow, which isn't very effective, due to its short range. Most hardcore gamers will be amazed by the fire rate of the chain gun, which blasts out its 100 bullet clips in about ten seconds. If you are a slower, more strategic gamers, the guided rocket launcher is likely to be your choice of weapon, because you don't even have to get it out from under your cover to fire at the helicopters.
Bottom Line
Heli Attack 3 combines many elements of the classic Metal Slug games and the basic components of a survival game. You should definitely try this game if you like any of games from the Metal Slug series, because many of the sprites in this game are extracted out of that old game. This doesn't take much brainpower to play. If you can say the sentence “Who doesn't want to pick a ____ (insert the name of a weapon here) and blast away at helicopters”, you’ll probably have a lot of fun playing Heli Attack 3.
