Madness Interactive is based on the original Madness flash movies. Playing this game, the player takes on the role of the main character featured in Madness series. These movies contain characters made of a mix of shapes, with no arms connecting to their hands. The most original “signature” built into these movies by their creators is the cross used to show which way the characters are facing. This character style is very original, and brings a great, ethereal feel to the game.
Gameplay
The gameplay is simple, yet violent. Your mouse moves your character’s right hand to pick up weapons, fire them, and even punch enemies. Everything is in shades of gray, except the blood, with few exceptions, just like in the movies. The weapons include knives, axes, machine guns, sniper rifles, urinals and stop signs. You can realistically throw knives, score instant kills on headshots, and hit enemies with your gun to spare ammo.
Graphics and Audio
The graphics are, as I said, one of the most original components of the game. Though they are not perfectly textured 3D, or even colored, they bring back feelings you had while watching the original movies. (If you ever did.) The audio is basic. It has different fire effects, including punching, pistol-firing, machine gun-rattling, and silenced pistol sounds.
Special Feature
There are several interesting parts of this original game. First of all, there is a character customization option available, allowing you to make your character resemble a madness version of anything, from an evil clown to a high-ranked army commander to a pirate. Also, there are a number of missions available, where you try to beat high scores from other players. A cool one is the knife throwing challenge, during which you stand still and throw an infinite collection of knives at a dummy. Also, there are a number of cheats available to make the play easier for first-timers.
Bottom Line
The game isn't as violent as the movies, but it definitely has the same feel as them. They have the same dull gray colors, and the uniquely shaped characters. Many of the weapons seen in the movies are also featured in this game, including both silenced and unsilenced pistols, and a number of knives, machine guns, and other weaponry. If you liked the Madness movies, or just think you would like to play a game like this, you should definitely try this game.
