With some recent technology available at www.winehq.com, you can play a game called Counterstrike, a popular online FPS (first-person shooter) game that allows you to fight head-on with your enemies with a large assortment of weapons ranging from your standard selection of pistols, to rifles, snipers, shotguns, and machine guns.

Gameplay

Counterstrike is hosted on thousands of servers, some with just a few (6-10) players, while other more popular ones will be packed with up to 64 players. Once you join a standard counterstrike server, you will wait for the current round to end. When the next one starts you spawn, and are able to buy weapons. There are grenades, rifles, sniper rifles, better pistols, and shotguns. Oh, and you start with a knife too. When finished buying, you will have to head out. Following your teammates, you will soon face enemies. If you manage to kill (or “frag”) them, good job. If you die, you’ll have to wait to the next round the join the game again. A lot more features are available, these are just the base ones.

Graphics and Audio

Graphics will vary greatly. On most average computers they’ll be fairly good. You’ll be amazed how realistic everything is. The audio is also great. There isn’t any music, but the sound effects are simply awesome. When fights start, you will hear the roar of gunfire and explosions of numerous grenades.

Special Feature

An interesting, while not important, part about Counterstrike is the physics system. The ground on some maps will be littered with cans and other trash, which can be fired around. On the “office” map, you will be able to turn over trashcans, destroy the computers, and even set up barricades using the cabinets.

Bottom Line

Counterstrike, in its simplest form, is a fun, realistic, and popular FPS game. As a counter-terrorist you will be saving hostages and defusing bombs, and as a terrorist you will be guarding your hostages (hopefully), and planting bombs.
